Overview
Overview
Scotch was created with a clear mission, to modernize how independent liquor stores run their business. By combining next-generation POS hardware with an efficient back office, the platform empowers store owners to focus on what truly matters: growing their business.
When the time came to take that vision further, Uitify aligned closely with their vision, creating a design that feels intuitive, effortless, and efficient from end to end. Beyond visual improvements, we refined every interaction to integrate seamlessly with the back office, creating a cohesive system that feels fast, modern, and effortless to use. The result of this collaboration led store owners cut costs, improve efficiency, and operate with confidence every day.

Pain points
Pain points
Poor hierarchy made key actions hard to spot: The old POS layout presented too many actions and sections at once, without a clear order to follow. Cashiers had to pause and figure out the next step themselves instead of moving naturally through each transaction. This slowed down sales, caused small mistakes, and made the day feel more stressful, limiting the store’s ability to serve customers efficiently and grow their business.

This slowed down sales, caused small mistakes, and made the day feel more stressful, limiting the store’s ability to serve customers efficiently and grow their business.
Outdated visuals weakened brand trust: The platform’s old design felt rigid and outdated, failing to reflect Scotch’s modern and agile identity. This visual disconnect made it harder for users to trust the brand and its technology. Without a look and feel aligned with its goals, Scotch risked losing credibility and engagement, making it harder for store owners to rely on the product as a trusted business partner.

Without a look and feel aligned with its goals, Scotch risked losing credibility and engagement, making it harder for store owners to rely on the product as a trusted business partner.
Unclear steps in the POS created friction: Cashiers weren’t guided through the POS workflow, and core actions weren’t visually prioritized. Users had to hunt for what to do next, which disrupted the natural flow of each sale. This friction made transactions slower, increased errors, and created frustration for staff, directly affecting operational efficiency and the customer experience.

Lack of clarity in back office actions: In the back office, tasks weren’t intuitive and the workflow wasn’t structured around how store owners actually work. Without a clear journey, logical layout, or familiar patterns, users often felt lost, spending extra time figuring out where to go or how to complete even simple actions. This lack of structure slowed operations, increased mistakes, and lowered confidence in the platform, time that could have been spent managing the store or helping customers.

Color-coded actions for faster decisions
Color-coded actions for faster decisions
To help cashiers act quickly and confidently, we applied color coding to POS action buttons. Each color guides the user intuitively, reducing the need to pause and think before performing an action. This simple visual cue lowers cognitive load, speeds up transactions, and ensures a smoother, more efficient workflow, allowing store owners to focus on serving customers and managing their operations effectively.

Breaking down the workflow
Breaking down the workflow
To simplify item lookup, we transformed the search into a top-level flow. Since it wasn’t used constantly, we removed it from the main screen and created a dedicated shortcut that opens a focused search screen. This approach keeps the main screen clean, highlighting only the most frequently used actions. It also creates a clear mental model for users, signaling that this screen is solely for searching products, which reduces the amount of information they need to process and speeds up daily operations.

Support when questions arise
Support when questions arise
Customers often ask about product details before making a purchase, and cashiers need quick access to that information without disrupting their flow. To support this, we added a dedicated panel that opens through a simple shortcut, displaying all key product details only when needed. This approach keeps the main interface focused on essential actions while ensuring that extra information is always within reach - helping cashiers respond with ease and keep every interaction smooth and efficient.

Clarity through structure

We introduced a table view to make transaction information easier to read and interpret. By keeping a consistent display pattern, users can instantly recognize how and where details appear, allowing them to scan the screen quickly and find what matters most. This clear and structured layout reduces effort, supports faster decision-making, and helps cashiers stay focused and in control during busy hours, keeping their workflow smooth and uninterrupted.

To make every checkout moment more engaging, we introduced the Customer Facing Display, a dedicated view where customers can see their loyalty points and purchase details in real time as items are scanned. By keeping this information visible, Scotch not only builds trust but also sparks motivation for customers to return, transforming transparency into a powerful driver of loyalty and repeat sales.

Throughout the day, the store manager, constantly works with tables - checking inventory, updating data, and ensuring everything stays on track. To support this routine, we redesigned all tables to display key information in a way that’s easier to read and scan. Subtle micro-interactions make updates and adjustments faster to perform, giving the user more agility in daily operations and reducing friction during repetitive tasks.

Some flows were not intuitive, forcing the user to second-guess their next step and pause the workflow to figure out where to go. This created cognitive overload and slowed down daily operations. To make their work easier, we remodeled the workflow around clear topics and the types of data each requires. this way, users can navigate naturally, focus on what they need to do for inventory, and complete actions without overthinking, reducing mental load and making the daily routine more efficient.

Streamlined Data
Streamlined Data
When reviewing a product at a granular level, inventory managers need immediate visibility into its key variables. Less essential information can distract or slow down their workflow. To address this, we designed a product details layout where the first interactive elements are the variables, followed by the details for each. Basic product information is available only through a shortcut, keeping the screen focused on what matters most. This user-centered approach reduces clutter, helps managers act quickly, and keeps their daily routine smooth and efficient.

Keeping products in stock requires more than just knowing when to reorder, it requires understanding performance and timing. To support smarter decisions, we developed a product insights panel where managers can review each item’s sales history and assess whether restocking is truly necessary. This view provides clarity on what’s selling, what’s slowing down, and what deserves shelf space, keeping the inventory lean, and strategic.

Every transaction moves between two domains — the back office and the sales counter. To bring both sides together, we built a seamless connection between the POS and the back office. Orders can be created, placed on hold, and retrieved later for payment and pickup right at the counter. This bridge keeps operations fluid, minimizes errors, and helps teams deliver a faster, more connected service.
